16 ans de prison pour Ali Ngarukiye, qui a tenté de tuer un policier

L’homme de 25 ans a tiré en direction d’un policier du SPVM et l’a battu à coups de barre de fer en 2021.

Ali Ngarukiye has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for attempting to kill Montreal police officer Sanjay Vig in January 2021. Ngarukiye disarmed the officer, fired at him, and attacked him with a metal bar, though the officer was unharmed. Convicted of six charges, including attempted murder and assault, the case gained attention after an innocent man, Mamadi Camara, was wrongly arrested and detained for six days. Ngarukiye was later arrested in Ontario. The judge rejected the Crown's request for an indefinite term, citing the attack's brutality, Ngarukiye's anti-police sentiment, and the danger posed by firing in a residential area. The sentence, initially 19 years, was reduced to 16 years. Ngarukiye also received a life sentence for murdering cellmate André Lapierre in July.
